Access is achieved via a double perspective. On the one hand, via a classic graffiti film aesthetic, which focuses on filming moving trains and their colorful productions. Stuttgart is considered a charismatic graffiti metropolis and INSIGHTS portrays the local S-Bahn and U-Bahn lines in a pointed way and with great music. On the other hand, the collective of authors is driven by a documentary interest, which is reflected in numerous cross-generational interviews with various actors who were or are active in the period under review (1992-2022). However, the real attraction lies elsewhere. Through the documentary perspective, the film succeeds in tracing the development of a ‘local’ graffiti scene in an exemplary manner, the metamorphosis of a subculture that otherwise pulsates covertly and likes to evade observation. It reveals factors and conditions that are conducive to a burgeoning graffiti scene and its consolidation, as well as challenges (e.g. law enforcement, surveillance) that put the actors involved and their work processes under pressure and provoke creative reactions.
